A Brief History of the Mortgage Crisis
I wrote this essay for a Junior Achievement Job Shadow event for students from Cross Keys High School. Some of my readers commented that the piece might be a bit advanced for a high school audience, and they were probably right: most of the students in my job shadow group were Freshmen and Sophomores. The essay generated some discussion, but we spent more time on other topics. Regardless, I believe in challenging the minds of young people and I also believe that there was an important lesson to be learned at the time of my writing.
This essay was written in May 2008, a fact that is important to understanding it within the context of recent economic history.
